It includes a title track that, rather than indulging in all-too-familiar hip-hop production techniques, casts the song as a fable about social mobility. The work was recorded at Madrid’s REiMAX studio, and it’s a fine example of what the studio can do. Rather than diving headfirst into the band’s huge backlog of songs, for this album OMD chose one from the early stages of the writing process. “We started writing that in 1995,” Bell explains. “It’s a great record. It’s quite up-tempo, it’s got great hooks, and there’s a cool narrative.” The most famous feature of the song is a “hip-hop intro” featuring Chali 2na, who many will know from his work with The Pharcyde, he also fronts a group called Simian Mobile Disco. OMD, meanwhile, has been made up of Bell, keyboardist Gary Moberley, bassist Nicholas Dodd and drummer Andy Sneap. “There are lots of cool motifs in that song,
