COST: £35.00 In Studio Only

We welcome you to the first Cacao & Kirtan at Leo Yoga.

Chanting is a practice as old as our ancestors & Kirtan has been growing in popularity in the west over the last 20 years. As a practice Kirtan is a central pillar of Bhakti Yoga, the Yoga of Devotion. Kirtan started in 6th Century Medieval India and gained momentum from the 12th centenary as a social movement to unite different castes and sects in one common form of a devotional workshop, centering participants in the heart space and allowing them to move beyond the constructs of society and limited perspective of the ego-mind.

Cacao has been a part of Meso-American culture for thousands of years. Referred to as ‘The Food of the Gods’ Cacao has been revered and used in ceremony to facilitate healing and connection to states of higher consciousness. Together Cacao and Kirtan form a harmonious and devotional connection, helping us step into wider states of devotion, higher states of bliss and a deeper surrendering to love.

The mantras we will chant will be in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India. No previous experience of Sanskrit or chanting is necessary to benefit from this practice. All the Kirtan’s will be in call and response format making it easy to follow and gain confidence as you go, enjoying the vibration and benefits of these ancient mantra’s.

What is Cacao?

Cacao is a powerful plant ally that helps us to anchor in the presence of our heart space, opening us up to states of bliss, deep receptivity and devotion. On the physical level Cacao is the highest plant-based source of iron, it also contains potassium, phosphorus, copper, zinc, and magnesium which contribute to cardiovascular health. It is a powerful antioxidant, a superfood, and a natural antidepressant. Cacao contains Theobromine which is a mild, non-addictive stimulant which is believed to treat depression. Cacao increases the production of a neurotransmitter called Anandamide (Ananda in Sanskrit translates as Bliss and so this is known as the Bliss Molecule) which gives a light euphoric feeling to the participant opening us to experiences of bliss and higher states of consciousness. Combing the practices of Kirtan with the heart-opening power of Cacao helps us move into vaster states of devotion and consciousness.

The spirit of Cacao is full of compassion and whilst she can be strong, she is also gentle at helping us to see ourselves and release old patterns that may no longer be serving us.

Consuming Cacao is generally safe with the only contraindications being if you are on SSRI’s (anti-depressants) then it can cause Serotonin Syndrome as Cacao naturally boosts our serotonin levels. If you are caffeine sensitive & pregnant or on medication for high blood pressure or heart issues then Cacao may not be best for you. If you can drink coffee then you can generally drink Cacao!

We look forward to welcoming you to what will be a beautiful ceremony together at Leo Yoga Studio.

Dom started his journey with Yoga in his early twenties. It wasn’t long after first stepping on a mat that he took a 6 month trip to India to immerse himself in the culture and go deeper into his practice. Once he returned to London his path continued and diversified. Over the last 13 years, Dom has practised Hatha, Iyengar, Kundalini, Anusara and Yin Yoga as well as spending many years studying in schools of Mayan Medicine, Tibetan Buddhism, Kabbalah and most recently working with plant medicine in the Amazon and Central America. Dom's formal training is a 200hr Sivananda Hatha Yoga certificate which is the basis of his weekly classes in which he weaves the many other influences of his journey. In each of Dom’s classes, you can expect to experience Mantra, Mudra, Pranayama and Asana, all interwoven with a healthy dose of Bhakti! When Dom is not on his yoga mat you will find him in a ceremony, out in nature, making music or brewing Cacao!"
